I'll admit, when I first started Darius the Great Is Not Okay, I thought "teens won't like this." Darius talks WAY too much about tea and while I lovelovelove Lord of the Rings references, it's a bit out-of-touch-with-today's-teens-since-it-came-out-20-years-ago-(dang-I-feel-old!).
But I kept on, and it's so worth it.
Y'all, Darius has depression and takes medication to treat it. And because he goes to Iran with his parents and sister to meet his grandparents, and, in Iran, mental health isn't seen the same way it's seen in the United States, Darius's mental health and need for medication is talked about quite a lot. And it was SO COMFORTING to hear it being discussed so openly.
